Failure Mode and Effects Analysis

In this course, employees will learn how to reduce risk, improve product and process quality, and increase customer satisfaction through the Failure Mode and Effects Analysis (FMEA). The FMEA provides a structured approach to identifying and prioritizing potential failure modes, taking action to prevent and detect failure modes and making sure mechanisms are in place to ensure ongoing process control.

Learning Outcomes
Upon the completion of this course, you will be able to:

  • Explain the nature of risk
  • Describe the key concepts critical to a Failure Mode and Effects Analysis
  • Explain how FMEA teams are established and be aware of tips and traps for conducting an effective FMEA
  • Identify inputs necessary for conducting a successful FMEA
  • Describe how failure modes, and their causes and effects, are identified
  • Explain how to assign rankings to risks associated with failure modes, and how to establish priorities for action
  • Identify mechanisms for reducing risks, once they've been identified
  • Explain the control plan's integral role in risk reduction efforts
